On Friday, September 7th, the STEM/PLC Department hosted the annual 8th Grade Kickoff.  8th graders from throughout the district were invited. The intent was to motivate and inspire students to pursue college, career and their life goals. Our students got to hear from motivational speaker Anthony Robles. His message is to never give up on your dreams and to believe that you are UNSTOPPABLE, which is the title of his memoir. Anthony Robles was born missing his right leg and has had to overcome many obstacles throughout his life. He began wrestling in high school and through his perseverance, he finished as a 3-time All-American recipient and won the 2011 NCAA National Wrestling Conference.

Rosemary Ybarra-Hernandez from the Aguila Youth Leadership Institute also gave an encouraging speech about life after high school. The Aguila Youth Leadership Institute is a nonprofit organization designed to steer students toward college with an emphasis on cultural representation. Superintendent Dr. Jacob A. Chávez, Governing Board President John Gomez and Cartwright principals gave our students tips on how they can be successful. We wish all the best to our 8th graders on their final year with the Cartwright School District and good luck in their future endeavors.
